Capt. Jason Spell of Port Orange, Florida, runs a 2023 Front Runner 36 CC named Knot on Call for Dr. John Hill, who owns and operates the West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine practice in DeLand. The Front Runner is powered by triple 300 hp Mercury Verados. This team fishes hard out of their home waters of Ponce Inlet, Florida but they like to travel as well.
Close to home, they recently won the “King of the Inlet” tournament out of Ponce Inlet with a massive 56.9-pound dolphin. But while they do like tournament competition, you’ll find them out there most weekends tournaments or not.
Spell’s primary occupation is owning and operating a boat and car detailing company called Complete Detailing Services out of Port Orange, but he also runs selective charters on the Knot on Call. And when he’s not fishing the Front Runner, he fishes with his close friend and mentor Capt. Louis Caruso of DeLand.
“We fish for all the offshore species off our area, depending on what season it is,” Spell said. “We fish hard for wahoo, dolphin and tunas, and when the time is right, we deep-drop for tilefish. We have some great snowy grouper spots too.” They also do a couple of Bahamas runs each season and have made trips to the Middle Grounds in the Gulf as well.
Spell says the Knot on Call suits their team well with the speed, ride and range they need, and they definitely use the boat as often as they can! This is one center console that works hard and always gets the job done.
