The New 32 Spencer Sport
Paul Spencer has created a new 32-foot center console that's built to Spencer Yacht standards.
Spencer Yachts has taken its three decades of experience building custom sportfishing yachts and its expertise in creating boats that exhibit exceptional performance, ride, styling and craftsmanship in a new direction with the introduction of the 32 Spencer Sport. Designed as an outboard-powered sportfish, the 32 Spencer Sport brings the distinctive character of a Spencer to a smaller platform while maintaining the company’s focus on performance, refinement and attention to detail. The concept began with a simple question from Spencer’s wife: Why don’t we have a small boat?
“After 30 years of building Spencer Yachts, my job has always been to continually refine and perfect the styling, performance, ride and details that make a Spencer a Spencer,” Spencer said. “I wanted to take everything we’ve learned over those years and incorporate it into a smaller, outboard-powered boat.”
The new 32 Spencer Sport brings the distinctive character of a Spencer Yacht to a smaller, outboard platform while still maintaining the company’s focus on performance, refinement and attention to detail. The project grew out of observations Spencer made regarding a small boat from another company that he bought for his family.
“We enjoyed it, but as we spent time with it, I found myself noticing the things I would change,” Spencer said, “the details, the styling, the ride and the overall level of refinement. I realized that if we were going to build a small boat, I wanted it to be exactly what I wanted.” That philosophy became the foundation for the 32 Spencer Sport. Rather than simply building a smaller version of one of its larger yachts, Spencer Yachts approached the 32 as an opportunity to rethink how its design philosophy could translate into an outboard-powered package. The result is a 32-foot sportfish designed around the characteristics that have defined Spencer Yachts for 30 years: offshore performance, a refined ride, distinctive Carolina styling and meticulous attention to detail.
Twin 400 hp Mercury V10 outboards power the boat to a top speed of 59 mph and it cruises at 38 mph. It has a 300-gallon fuel capacity and 40-gallon freshwater capacity. But for Spencer, the significance of the new model extends beyond its specifications.
“The 32 Spencer Sport gave us the opportunity to take that philosophy and apply it in a completely different format,” he said. “It has the performance, ride and character of a Spencer, with the elevated styling and level of detail that I believe a Spencer should have.”
