Garmin recently introduced the new Signal VHF 400 and VHF 220 all-in-one marine VHF radios. These compact VHFs require minimal space at the helm, with an industry-first 3.5-inch color touchscreen with edge-to-edge glass for a more modern look. But even though they may be small, they come packed with powerful features.
The premium VHF 400 offers an integrated Class B Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder, which transmits vessel name, position, course and speed to nearby AIS-equipped vessels. The Signal VHF radios work with the new Garmin Signal RM 100 remote station, which connects to the Garmin Marine Network to communicate with the radio from a secondary helm or flybridge. This makes remote control easy and intuitive.
The radios can be configured using the ActiveCaptain smartphone app via built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, so you can program the MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) number and get over-the-air software updates with ease.
The Garmin Signal VHF 220 marine radio has a suggested retail price of $999.99, while the Garmin Signal RM 100 has a suggested retail price of $699.99. Both devices are available for purchase on Garmin.com. The Garmin Signal VHF 400 has a suggested retail price of $1,499.99 and will be available soon (US only).
